On her second full-length album, #TakeOff singer/songwriter Tamara Goldinella proves herself deeply devoted to making uncompromisingly soulful music that transcends the box called "a genre". Goldinella's latest batch of songs capture the vibe of redemption and restoration lyrically and musically by transcending listeners to deeper levels of self and relationship reflection.
Titled from her heart’s desire to personally elevate, #TakeOff bears a title that reflects her intent. “Like a plane, we should all have a pilot, mine is Christ, take off, soar, navigate through various conditions, including cloudy weather, keep a mandatory schedule and land at a specific destinations,” says Goldinella, “this album is about getting your life together and all that comes with that; the pain and peace that come with goodbyes and hellos". Along with immersing herself in a songwriting approach that involved sensitive examination of her roller-coaster life, she collaborated with producers that could express the music stylistically and complementary of her genre-less style. “All of my life, I’ve shifted. The stories I have to tell would be more fitting for a sci-fi-horror-romance flick. I'm facing my demons. The people I’ve met along the way, their demons; the places I’ve been, so culturally diverse, make me feel like I’ve been to heaven, hell, outer-space, 34th street and Ms. Shelby’s farm. I don’t actually know a Ms. Shelby, but you catch my drift.”
Despite her rocky journey, which gave her so many stories to tell, Goldinella was able to piece together a unified, thematic work of art that displays sounds from edgy neo-soul and reggae to throwback R&B and hip-hop jazz. Tamara is the millennial version of purpose in music driven artist such as Nina Simone and Lauryn Hill, with unexpected and surprising twists. In addition to her strong musical leg, her passions for community-wide mental health and spiritual health are prevalent not only in her lyrics and music enterprise, but her literature and commentary.
